BodyTalk, Naturopathy and Post Natal Depression – Case Study
Claire is a 34 year old female who came to see me while 4 months pregnant with her second child. She had her first child in 2014, but experienced a difficult pregnancy and difficult birth. A few months after the birth, she was experiencing anxiety and depression and then 6-8 months later was close to being diagnosed with post partum psychosis. Now Claire was 4 months pregnant she was starting to feel depressed with a foggy head. There was a history of depression with Claire, her energy was low, only 2/10 she felt she had no motivation, and felt emotionally sensitive and tearful. She had some pregnancy reflux and was also bloated and constipated.
After just one naturopathy and BodyTalk session her tiredness rose to 5/10, she wasn’t constipated, the reflux had gone and the foggy head had improved. She was still a little tearful and worried the depression would return.
After several sessions, Claire described having her second child as a “completely different parenting experience”. They bonded straight away and she “feels in love” with her baby and they have a great relationship. Emotionally she “feels a lot more positive” and her digestion has improved. She was also anxious about the school run, but now feels much better, is more confident and knows herself better and is more relaxed. Previously, she would have worried about the mums on the school run, but now enjoys their company. She continues with occasional sessions and continues to feel positive, “feels more consistent” and is “not caught up in anxiety”.
