SIBO, Reflux Bloating and Anxiety – Case Study
Alex is a 23 year old female who came to see me complaining of severe acid reflux, bloating, headaches, general stomach issues and fatigue. She had first been diagnosed with GERD 5 years ago during 2 year period of clinical depression. She described the impact on her life as ‘frustration, pain, I am at the point where I am not sure what I can and can’t eat. It has had a toll on my mental health and has consequently increased anxiety.” She was constantly fatigued and feeling isolated as she was unable to go to the pub and have dinner with friends etc because of her strict diet. She had been on Lansoprazole for her symptoms but had recently stopped taking this as she felt medications were making her feel worse. She rated her energy levels as 4-5/10.
A SIBO test showed that Alex had hydrogen dominant small intestine bacterial overgrowth. Alex was treated with a SIBO dietary protocol, herbs, supplements and BodyTalk was used to help heal the mind/body. After only 4 sessions over several months, Alex tested negative for SIBO and described her digestion as being ‘generally good’ and there was only a little, occasional bloating and reflux with certain foods. She described herself as having a lot of energy and ‘”feels like her old self again”, she is now able to exercise in the mornings. Alex said her experience had been life changing and will continue to have sessions to help improve her health further.
